How To Catch A Ditto In Pokemon Go: It seems like catching a Ditto in Pokémon Go always occurs at the most inconvenient of times. Catching three in one day isn’t uncommon; but, once you need a fourth to collect DNA for a study expedition, those pink gelatinous blobs of DNA replicating goo are nowhere to be seen.
What is it about a Ditto that makes it so special?
In order to accomplish the Special Research Quest ‘A Mythical Discovery,’ which will allow you to get your very own Mew, you must first complete the ‘A Mythical Discovery’ quest. For those who believe they have it made since they have already caught one, they will be in for a rude awakening. It is only when you are given the job to capture a Ditto that it will count towards the Mew quest; previously caught Dittos will not count towards the quest until you reach step 5 of the quest, which specifically requests that you catch a Ditto.
The most difficult aspect of capturing Ditto in Pokémon Go is that, unlike in previous Pokémon games where Ditto may be discovered in its basic form, Ditto in Pokémon Go takes on the appearance of another Pokémon. As a matter of fact, converted Dittos seem to be identical to their prey – a Ditto’d Zubat appears to be identical to a normal Zubat, which means you won’t be able to tell the difference on the map screen. For added frustration, you won’t know whether the Pokémon you’re collecting is a Ditto until you’ve captured one when a special screen will play telling you that you’ve gotten a Ditto instead of the Pokémon you were hoping to get.
While there is no simple method to get a Ditto other than simply playing and hoping, we can assist you in reducing the amount of time you spend on the hunt for the creature. Just keep in mind that there is no foolproof or fast method to do this, although following the procedures outlined below may be very beneficial.
Here are three suggestions that can assist you in catching a Ditto in the shortest amount of time possible.
1. These are the Ditto-impersonating Pokémon.
Ditto can only be caught by hunting down and capturing Ditto duplicates, which is the only technique available. Please keep in mind that these Pokémon will seem identical to one another on your map, so you’ll just have to capture every one of them until you get your Ditto.
When you capture a Pokémon, instead of hearing the phrase “Catch,” the word “Oh?” will appear over the Pokémon’s head, and Ditto will emerge from the shadows. This will not occur until after the Pokémon has been captured, so make sure you capture the Pokémon and do not give up until you have completed the task.
In the case when you believe that a Hoothoot is taking an inordinate amount of time to capture and, for example, continues bursting out of the Pokéball, the odds are that this is really a Ditto, who is considerably more difficult to capture. At least, such was the case for us when we came across a Ditto masquerading as a Hoppip earlier this year.
Because there is no certain method to determine which one is a Ditto, it will take a significant amount of time and patience to catch one, so be prepared for a lengthy slog of catching them. The next advice will teach you how to utilize a smart approach to help make the job go a little more quickly, which takes us to our next point.
2. Use Lures and Incense to attract Ditto’s attention.
If you are in desperate need of a Ditto right now and are unable to locate any of the aforementioned Pokémon in your immediate vicinity, you can always visit a Poké Stop nearby and drop a Lure or Incense to see if one of them would appear. It is possible to bring any of the particular Pokémon that you are searching for straight to you by using one of these things; but, since these items are very rare, you may not want to use them all at once.
It is recommended that you only use lures and incense for a short period of time and that you use one of your Lucky Eggs to boost the number of Pokémon around and the amount of XP you get each capture — this is an excellent method to power level. Take into consideration that there are sometimes special events in Pokémon Go that will extend the Incense time from 60 minutes to three hours, so you may be much more productive if you wait till an event is taking place.
3. The ‘Nearby Pokémon tracker is your greatest buddy in the whole world.
A button will emerge in the bottom right corner of the map screen that will display the silhouettes of Pokémon that are currently in the area you are currently in.
Alternatively, if you’ve run out of Incense and Lures, you may use this to hunt them down on your own; however, be careful that the silhouette will not indicate a Ditto. The silhouettes may be selected by tapping on them to plan a route on your map that will take you directly to the monitored Pokémon, which you can then attempt to capture and hope for the best.
Note: This list of Pokémon that may be used as Dittos is constantly changing; for example, it used to contain Paras in February, but this is no longer the case as of March 2021; nevertheless, everything else has stayed constant.
